I've been preparing a solo presentation for the 2010 Big Ideas Fest in Half Moon Bay, California, hosted by ISKME--The Institute For the Study of Knowledge Management in Education. I'm especially excited about this, not only because I get to spend several days on the West Coast, but because the conference, or festival, promises to be something special.

PLI Grant Supports Leadership in Urban Districts
The U.S. Department of Education has awarded the Principal Leadership Institute (PLI) a multi-year grant of $750,000 to develop leadership in urban districts. Designed in partnership with the Oakland, San Francisco and West Contra Costa school districts with PLI as the anchor program, the Strategic Leadership Collaborative will support a complement of four programs. Dr. Lisa Petrides, president of the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education will serve as the outside evaluator for the grant..
Open Educational Resources: The Education Ecosystem Comes to Life
I was asked to explain why the introduction of open educational resources into the education ecosystem might in fact be one of the most important things that has happened to education in the last 100 years. I guess in centuries before we might have said that it was the Socratic Method, or the advent of public schooling, or teaching to the agrarian calendar.
