Al-Masdar means The Source in Arabic and this site is a rich source of resources, opportunity, and community for Arabic language teachers. Built upon the full OER Commons infrastructure, Al-Masdar includes functionality that allows teachers to build professional affinity groups, co-author instructional material in both English or Arabic for their classrooms using the Open Authoring platform, share resource evaluations based upon the National Standards for Foreign Language Education, as well as discover a wealth of open educational resources (OER). Phase Two of the project, which will begin in 2014, includes adding a curriculum mapping tool and quiz builder to the site, along with providing courses and professional development to support teachers as they build their practice using open educational resources in the Arabic language classroom.
