Says Schoettler, of the role he expects to play in ISKME’s ongoing reinvention of education, “I am excited to join the ISKME team. Current board member Serban is an educator and administrator with more than two decades of experience in the leadership of colleges and universities in the United States and abroad. As Vice Chancellor of Educational Services and Technology for Coast Community College District in Costa Mesa, CA, she is the district chief academic, student services, and technology officer, overseeing instructional and international programs, student services, grants, international research, technology, and partnerships. A widely published author, executive editor of the Journal for Applied Research in the Community College, board president of the California Colleges for International Education consortium, frequent speaker, and recipient of many awards and honors, including an appointment by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO, Serban brings extensive knowledge in education practices here and abroad with a focus on technology.
Serban stresses that “ISKME’s focus on redesigning the future of education coincides with my keen interest and work over the past 15 years in strengthening a framework for student success in California community colleges. I also hope to contribute my experience in international education, particularly in applications of technology, with ISKME’s outreach in the Middle East and North Africa.”
