Next Wednesday, January 11th, from 6:30pm-8:30pm, the Internet Archive and ISKME will co-host a conversation that explores the concept of custom schooling, which is a model of individualized teaching and learning experienced in class sizes of one to four students. The impetus for this event is Internet Archive Founder Brewster Kahle, who recently shared his passion for custom schooling at Big Ideas Fest where he discussed how his 14-year old son’s interest in birding was a catalyst to creating an individualized schooling model for richer learning.
The evening will consist of two panels. On the first panel, three families will discuss their experiences, challenges, and successes with custom schooling. The second panel will include insights and resources from teachers who have taught in the custom schooling environment.
It will be an excellent opportunity to hear from a small group of education innovators who have stepped outside of the traditional model of formal education and are designing custom schooling models. The event is for parents and families who are considering custom schooling, as well as teachers and educators who are creating alternative models of K-12 education in response to the needs of a changing generation of learners.
The reception and tour of Internet Archive begins at 6:00pm. The panel and discussion is from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Presentations will be videotaped and freely available on the Internet Archive following the event.
