ISKME’s Designing for Impact Series will showcase how leaders are utilizing the design process to advance their OER work. This four part series will highlight different stages of designing for innovation, beginning with research to gather needs and insights, then identifying opportunities to design for, to prototyping and testing new ideas, and finally scaling and sustaining OER initiatives. Each session will showcase impactful initiatives in Arizona, California, Saskatchewan, Utah, Texas, and Virginia; followed by engaging discussions and sharing.

Session 1: Research – OER Needs Analysis with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board May 13 12-1pm Pacific / 3-4pm Eastern – This session will support data gathering and analysis to gain a deeper understanding of OER needs in our departments and institutions. We will showcase how ISKME and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) have been collaborating on research analysis throughout the state to inform OER initiatives in Texas. Participants will have opportunities to connect and engage with each other around questions they can ask to inform their OER efforts. Register here

Session 2: Identifying Opportunities to Design For – Gen-AI and OER June 10 12-1pm Pacific / 3-4pm Eastern – This session will show how librarians and faculty are leveraging AI to enhance the creation and adaptation of OER. We will highlight how ISKME and the University of Virginia are collaborating on a project to develop a Community Hub on https://oercommons.org/ and Fellowship Program that focuses on using generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) to aid the creation and adaptation of Open Educational Resources (OER). Participants will have opportunities to connect and engage with each other around how they might utilize AI to advance their OER work. Register here

Session 3: Prototyping and Testing New Ideas – Accessibility and OER July 15 12-1pm Pacific / 3-4pm Eastern This session will showcase how educators are designing OER to meet the needs of every learner with CAST’s Universal Design for Learning (UDL) guidelines of engagement, representation, and action & expression. We will highlight how ISKME and California Community Colleges are collaborating to design and facilitate OER Accessibility Courses for faculty throughout California. Participants will have opportunities to connect and engage with each other around how they might incorporate the guidelines into their OER work. Register here
