Support ISKME

DonateFor the past 15 years, the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME) a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, has fostered a global community addressing the biggest opportunities and challenges facing education today. We enable educators to thrive by supporting their ability to collaborate, design, curate, and lead innovation. We connect educators with ideas, trainings, and tools, providing opportunities that strengthen their professional practice--with the goal of making education more inclusive and relevant to learners. Educators often begin their journey with us and are inspired to become change agents in their own institutions. Some adapt our tools and processes for their unique needs, while others partner with us producing even greater value than what either of us could have done alone. Here are a few short stories from these inspired and inspiring educators.

With your support, we look forward to ensuring that all learners have access to high-quality education and that educators everywhere have the support they need to thrive. Please consider making a donation to ISKME today.

Tim Farquer’s first came to ISKME in 2012, as part of a year-long Fellowship program funded by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. As superintendent of a small rural district in Illinois, Tim describes ISKME’s approach to open educational resources (OER) and training as the catalyst for advancing his own professional development, and for building capacity in his school community for curriculum improvement and innovation. Tim is recognized today as a leader in the U.S. Department of Education’s #GoOpen campaign, inspiring other districts and states in their pursuit of open educational practice.

Jennifer Maddrell has been using OER Commons to create MOOCs in the field of adult education. As the Chicago-based Founder of Designers for Learning, Jennifer highlights the impact of ISKME’s OER Commons collaborative toolset on the massive open online courses (MOOCs), and on the service learning opportunities that her organization facilitates for educators and instructional designers. Over 3,500 people have been trained in Jennifer’s Designers for Learning MOOCs using ISKME’s OER tools.

David Harris helps to model the strength in collaboration among OER partners. As Editor-in-Chief at OpenStax, Rice University, TX, David underscores ISKME’s role across the OER ecosystem, from a holistic approach to open education and curriculum reform, to the OpenStax Hub (a Community of Practice for OpenStax users) on OER Commons. OpenStax currently has 27 textbooks that are used in 3,500 U.S. colleges and high schools, by over 10,000 teachers and 2 million students, which has saved students over $175 million.
