OER Value Proposition and Evidence of Impact in 2014

Meeting overview

It’s 2014, and we have come a long way since the launch of the OER movement – from small beginnings to significant inroads among educators, learners, advocates and policymakers. Together we are changing the way teachers and learners access and use educational resources, offering new ways for schools, universities, and informal learners to use data and creating tools that improve student learning. We are also anticipating our coming together as a community, and with it, the opportunity to reflect on our achievements and a chance to imagine our future success stories.

The focus of this year’s meeting is on exploring both the value proposition of OER and evidence of its impact. In addition to hearing outstanding speakers, terrific networking opportunities, and, of course, an OER Dessert Party “Under the Stars,” participants will take part in sessions that lay out a process for articulating the value proposition of OER in action, and have the chance to build upon their own use cases, and receive feedback from other OER users and makers.

Upon leaving the meeting, participants will be able to articulate the particular value their OER work provides; cite supporting evidence for their OER project’s approach; and to learn about other OER efforts that relate to their own work.

The meeting will take place at the historic Cavallo Point Lodge, Fort Baker, in Sausalito, California and is hosted by ISKME (Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education).

Airport Transportation Suggestions to Cavallo Point Lodge

If you are scheduling a cab or towncar pick-up at the hotel, please note that you will need at least 2 hours notice to ensure pick-up on time. Estimated cost of a cab or towncar from hotel to SFO is approximately $75 (one way).

As noted in information provided in the link above, you can also use the Marin Airporter to arrive and depart from the hotel. The hotel provides transport to and from the bus stop where the Marin Airporter stops. Please consult Cavallo's link above for directions for using the Marin Airporter for arrival to the hotel (about $20 each way). To use the Marin Airporter to get back to the airport, you will need to request a shuttle ride from the Cavallo Front Desk to the Center Ave bus stop at least 2 hours before you want to depart the hotel. The Marin Airporter picks up at the Center Ave bus stop twice every hour (10 past the hour, 40 past the hour).

If you need help coordinating transportation back to the airport after the meeting, the Lodge suggests that you stop by the front desk to make reservations the day before your departure. The front desk can help arrange cabs, towncars and shuttle services. To reach the front desk, call 415-339-4700.

We have created an online, user-generated Ride-Share Board here. The OER 2014 registration desk will also have a ride share board displayed to help participants self-organize rides shares amongst themselves.   For driving directions, please visit: http://www.cavallopoint.com/directions.html

Cavallo Point Lodge Parking

Overnight parking is $25/night (valet or self-park, cost is the same). For both valet and self-park, please pull up the valet stand in front of the main building (Building A on the map link below). Upon check-in, the front desk will direct you where to park your car (if self-parking).

Day parking is free, you can either self-park or have your car valet parked. For both valet and self-park, please pull up the valet stand in front of the main building (Building A on the map link below). If self-parking, the valet stand will direct you where to park your car.   For a map of the hotel grounds, please visit Cavallo Point Map here.
