It hasn’t always been easy pushing up against the traditional confines of education systems, both in the United States and around the world. But it feels good to say that since ISKME was founded 20 years ago, we’ve kept true to our vision for creating educational systems that are participatory, equitable, and open. We’ve often worked from the bottom up, building a grassroots movement to make our vision a reality. We’ve also worked from the top down, supporting federal, state, and country-based policies for open education. As a collaborative team, we’ve modeled the changes we sought, and have been at the forefront of an international community of educators and leaders to advocate for open education and to equitably improve teaching and learning for all.
Who knew we could actually create change in the world? We started with a hunch that it was possible. We’ve kept true to the charge, and as such, we’ve left our mark on the education landscape. To celebrate all we’ve accomplished in our first two decades, we’ve released a retrospective of our work as we close out our 20th year. Looking back on our story, it’s so clear that by never losing sight of our vision, ISKME has been able to achieve real and lasting change in education.
